Watchmakers are always pushing the boundaries, trying to create innovative designs that will outshine the competition. Pushing boundaries is what the fashion industry thrives on. And at this stage in the game, we expect lines to be crossed from brands like Citizen watches and Tag Heuer watches, but the 2lmx watch takes the cake. The watch was designed by Arnaud Tellier, a former curator at the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.
The watch launches Tellier’s new brand of the same name. It’s easy to see that he was influenced by the influx of skeleton watches as of late but he took it to the extreme. As if you couldn’t have guessed, the watch is mechanical and manually wound with a core tourbillon mechanism. What makes it (un)appealing is seeing the inner workings through a sapphire crystal casing. Unlike every other timepiece, this watch uses a 24-hour format on a set of barrels.
How do you create such a feat? With 337 components, 44 jewels, and about a 1,000 free hours. Because it’s so labor intensive, there is very limited production. Just how limited? Only 5 a year will be created. By next year you’ll be able to purchase it in a platinum casing with either black or white dial and wristband. So is it awesome or ugly? You decide!
